John B. Wissler's details
Dr. John Wissler is the Director of Aerospace Systems at Aurora’s Research and Development Center in Cambridge, MA. Prior to recently joining Aurora he enjoyed a 30 year USAF career, mostly in research and development. Among his assignments, he led the Air Force Research Laboratory (AFRL) Air Vehicles Directorate, where he was responsible for leading the development of advanced technologies in aerodynamics, controls, and structures. Programs executed under his authority included the Advanced Composite Cargo Aircraft, AFRL’s Prompt and Persistent Precision Engagement portfolio, Future Responsive Access-to-Space, Auto Air Refueling, and Ultra-Long Endurance ISR concept (which eventually became the Orion program). He also led AFRL’s Battlespace Environments Division, where he oversaw programs in space weather, space-based sensing, and atmospheric impacts on terrestrial systems, and the USAF Academy’s Aeronautics Laboratory, where he led and managed the Academy’s aeronautics teaching and research facilities and taught classes in fluid mechanics and thermodynamics analysis and design. His most recent assignment in the USAF was as Deputy Director of Engineering at Electronic Systems Center. Dr Wissler has a Ph.D from California Institute of Technology, a Master of Science (Aeronautical Engineering) from the Air Force Institute of Technology, and a Bachelor of Science (Mechanical Engineering) from the University of Maryland, as well as a Masters in Strategic Studies from the US Army War College.
